Creations inspired by the Archetypes
In 2010 I created my debut solo show THE HISTORY OF THE POMEGRANATE at Jacksons Lane in London. Using the myth of Persephone and her descent into the underworld as a guide to my own journey of the death of the Maiden within me. It became the birth of my work as a solo artist and as a singer- songwriter. I used a loop pedal to create magical sound worlds and multilayered vocal songs. It was my first journey in the shadowlands and the source of my curiosity and passion to use Myth and Archetypes as tools for healing, growth and transformation. I consumed Jean Shinoda Bolen's book "Goddesses in Everywoman" and Clarissa Pinkola Estes' book ‘Women Who Run With The Wolves’ and my work began.........
Two years later in 2012 I created and directed THE SEVENTH MUSE at the Barbican Theatre in Plymouth for YMT with a cast of 36 young women. I was blown away by the humility and courage of these young women to trust the work we were exploring. Using the Goddesses: Persephone, Artemis, Athena, Hestia, Hera, Demeter and Aphrodite in their shadow and light poles as inspiration for the work. This experience was the beginning of the Embodied Archetype Workshops.
Then in 2014 I created HARVEST FIRE at the Lemon Tree in Aberdeen with a cast of 36 young women and men. It was the first time I had worked across genders. And to be fair, I was totally scared it would be too much for the young people. But I was wrong. It was epic! The power of the teachings from archetypal work is so potent and ancient that these young people got it. For this production I used "King, Warrior, Magician, Lover: Rediscovering the Archetypes of the Mature Masculine" by Robert Moore as a source of inspiration, which is written from the Male perspective. So I absorbed everything the book said about the masculine, made my refinements and "translated" it for the feminine. Then translated that into source material to make an hour long piece of transformational theatre, drawing on some of the principles of Burning Man and Lughnasadh - with a band!.
